I use a HTML entry parser [1], as well as txtl in the past. (I actually tend to write the most in markdown now, and convert to HTML.) Though, my recollection was the "*.html" was a special extension reserved for a flavor, *but* in recent versions and/or if you use a flavours directory, there's no problem.
