BTW: I see that this occurs when a comment is trying to be written, and the 
cfile.close() occurs as an exception to the attempt to open and write it. I 
presume it's the cfile=open(cfn, "w") that is triggering the exception (not 
the subsequent writes) but my comments directory is writable, and that 
directory does exist. So I tested the basic comment writing again, and see 
I must've screwed something up there. I checked the directories, and 
indeed, some of the permissions were not quite correct in the 
subdirectories. Tweaked them, and it works! <smile/> I'm chatting with my 
host provider about using suEXEC or an approriate group such that apache 
can write there, but it's not world writable...
