so that's some kind of advanced media type registration voodoo, right? 
my knowledge about the registration process is probably rather basic, 
but my understanding was that parameters have to be defined in the 
registration, and they cannot be added separately to an existing 
registration. maybe the indirection you're mentioning makes this 
possible, but if nobody is using this, it may be a good sign that this 
mechanism is a little bit more complex than what most media type authors 
are after.
