remote has FTP.LOG in each directory

My upstream host, affordablehost.com, has these silly FTP.LOG, or
whatever they are called, files sitting in each directory that one
encounters when one tries to remove that directory. One must go in
manually and remove it first. Best strategy in this case is what?
Sure I could do
$ find . -type d -exec touch {}/FTP.LOG \;
$ sitecopy --catchup
But what if not all the directories have FTP.LOG there, only say older
directories. Also this is ugly when doing sitemaps.
The remote only allows FTP access.
