It is fixed in the mean, hit me in the tub this morning... So, my problem was: SiteMesh worked as expected, but as soon as I tried to decorate a jspx, being accessed directly or as a WebWork result, SiteMesh just kept ignoring those. I actually only included the <jsp:directive.page contentType="text/html... tag in the decorator and left it out in my test jspx page, as I would have done using tiles. And that is were it hit me "TILES"! It just simply isn't the same approach: decorator pattern that is here! So I added the correct header to my WebWork jspx result so that SiteMesh knows this is content it can handle (or at least try). Everything's fixed now.
