External program does not work when launched from within SkunkWeb

Hi everybody,

I am having a curious problem, and was wondering if anyone had
encountered this. I am developing a site using SkunkWeb that uses spawnv
or spawnl to launch an external server programme that generates
diagrams. The SkunkWeb components and the server programme communicate
with each other using named pipes, created using mkfifo() in the C++
server code.

This works fine from the command line, as I can launch the external
application server as user apache (the same user that Apache and
SkunkWeb are running under), and the named pipes are created. However,
when the application server is launched from within SkunkWeb, the pipes
are not created.

Do external programmes launched by a SkunkWeb process have
restricted permissions that would prevent them from creating a named
pipe? Any other ideas?
