Changing password

Hello, I did not find a way for changing the user password in the user preferences section. Any changes in the password entry box are igneored, when the preferences are saved. Changes in other fields are correctly recorded. Does anyone know, whether it is intended that the user should not change his password or is this a bug or misconfiguration in my setup?
