Julie:
Here is the point I was trying to make. There are standards for
HTML code that have been set forth by the W3C. Many older browsers
didn't follow that standard. Most newer browsers do. Why should we
have to continue to jump through hoops to accomodate non-standard
compliant products, especially when the compliant products are free?
I didn't say that I'm trying to exclude users with older browsers. All
I said was that I only test with standards-compliant browsers since I am
writing standards-compliant code.
Maybe a better analogy for what I was saying is this:
The US uses the NTSC format for broadcast video. TV set makers create
sets sold in the US to be compatible with the NTSC format. Broadcasters
use NTSC. Camera makers use NTSC.
So let's say that some TV makers decided to manufacture televisions that
didn't adhere to the NTSC standard that the industry established?
Should broadcasters now figure out a hack or workaround to accomodate
these non-compliant TV sets? My opinion is that they shouldn't.
