I hope its not too tangential, but the latest issue of Ergonomics (vol46,
Nos. 13-14 - special issue edited by Helander and Tham) addresses
'affective' human actors design, and so has sevaral papers dealing with the
semantic arena - e.g.
'Product design, semantics, and emotional response'
'Semantic environment description as a tool to evaluate car interiors'

There are several instances of design semantics being treated in pragmatic
ways without the baggage of the 'levels' debates of old.
