UI Design/UCD at Software Conferences?

I'm off to OOPSLA in a couple of weeks for the first time (although I've
been involved in OO design for about 12 years). I'm giving a half-day
tutorial on user-centred design (T51 if anyone is interested) but what I
am pretty startled by is the relative dearth of tutorials on user
interface and user-centred design. Aside from my tutorial, there is
another half day on usage-centred design with Agile methods (based
presumably on Constantine and Lockwood's method) but that's about it.

Given that tutorials at HCI conferences like CHI don't usually address
the nitty-gritty of actual UI design, and that software development
conferences don't seem to either, where do developers get this kind of
training - if at all? (And is that maybe one of our biggest problems?)

Have you been to a software-oriented conference that offered UI/UCD
tutorials or is it purely the domain of commercial affairs such as those
by NNG and UIE? (And even then, mostly web versus software usability.)
