Minimum readable pixel sizes for Japanese characters?

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time talker...

I'm after some guidelines on the minimum readable pixel height for
Japanese text. The only info I've found so far is a post from someone at
xerox online mentioning:

"Japanese 14 pixels square (includes a 1 pixel gutter vertically and
horizontally) (some strokes have to be sacrificed but context aids
recognition)"

but I don't know how reliable this is...

any help much appreciaed!
