I think: There is one set f standards as defined by W3C - it is the 
implementation of them that varies across browsers

Didn't IE6 implement the DOM model differently? Which is why I saidIE6 - as 
support for IE5.5 will very soon die (forgotten the exact roadmap, but 
thought it was this fall/autumn.)

ALT tags (alt tags in XHTML)

Let's not get confused here - ALT is required for accessibility - it is 
rendered in speech and braille browsers as the REQUIRED alternative to the 
graphic. ALT is implemented in IE incorrectly - it displays on  right 
click, whereas it should be TITLE that is so displayed. Opera 6 does it 
correctly.

Is the correct form  alt="" or alt=" " (the difference being the space). 
Speech readers render them differently, I believe.

N.B. - at the moment some of the wiki is down - looks like a MySQL fault.

And on a personal note, my wife and I go off on Thursday to lead a two week 
field trip in Cornwall on Geology and Archaeology. We'll be away from 25th 
July to 12th August. The trip details are on my one and only XHTML 1.1

got fed up or forgotten you all.

Hope, thought, to have some more really interesting mails before then, 
though, as this list is one of the most stimulating I've ever been on.
