It's not a shame if Microsoft supports standards. Haw, haw.

I think this is a great illustration of a web developer who doesn't fully
understand the benefits of web standards in projects.

If everyone supported IE extensions, then the browser manufacturers would no
longer be about creating the best web experience, it would be about support
Microsoft's extensions.  It would become a circus, with each manufacturer
stammering to add the new "MS compatability" features everytime Microsoft
blinked (hey, look at the myriad of companies that do this in the desktop
space).  That eliminates competition, which in turn would make the web
experience dictated by one company, Microsoft.

Microsoft's great business strides (.Net, web services) have come because
it's stimulated by the competition in this space, including browser
competition.  It's GOOD for businesses to have competition.
