Hi Jamie,

Thank you for the response and that makes perfect sense!

Will continue with the current manual method of checking (ie. Group chat : anyone in the da file?).

Thanks again.

Kind Regards,
Mark Rankin

Unfortunately there is no locking on Webmin that would prevent this - also, it's kind of tricky to implement, because if someone opened the file and then just closed their browser, Webmin would have no way of knowing that the lock should be released.

The only thing we could do is warn the second user if the file was modified by someone else before saving, to protect the guy who saved first,

Hi,

New to this mail list, long time & big-time fan of Webmin!

Using file editor, files being edited don't seem to be locked. Is this expected behaviour or is it a bug?

Example: Two people open a file to edit (in this case, /home/servers/xymon/etc/hosts.cfg) at the same time - both people can edit the file at the same time however once one person saves the file, the other persons changes will be overwritten or not saved. There is no message or indicator around another being in the file.

Currently we have had to implement a very manual work-around to facilitate multiple people editing this file and I was hoping there was a way to better facilitate this.

Webmin version : 1.953
Webmin Config : File Locking = Set to : Lock all files
OS : Centos 6.10
Browser : Chrome

Kind Regards,

Mark Rankin
