There is some truth in that advice. Xcode 2.1 introduced some new
features and was quite buggy. There is a new EOModeler plugin that
has been heavily criticized and most of us have chosen to avoid it
and keep using the older EOModeler app with XCode 2.1 or 2.2 which is
a little tricky to do at first because just clicking the model file
in Xcode 2.1 and above tries to open the new EOModeler module instead
of the old EOModeler app. I have to find my model file and drop it
onto the dock icon for EOModeler.app 5.3

In my opinion Xcode 2.1 wasn't usable, but Xcode 2.2.1 is. Perhaps
foolishly, I prefer to move forward with the latest versions rather
than stick with an 'out dated' one.

There is another point I didn't mention. I'm using an intel iMac. I
can't use Xcode 2.0 on that. So my preference for Xcode 2.2.1 is
heavily influenced by necessity. I'm hoping they improve Xcode soon,
and make the good ideas introduced with 2.1 actually work smoothly.

To sum up. you might get an easier start with Xcode 2.0, but sooner
or later you will move to the latest, and currently that means
2.2.1. I'm using that and I'm (mostly) happy with it.

PS. the above comments on XCode 2.1 and 2.2 problems only apply to
WebObjects development. Developers working with other languages may
not encounter these issues.
