Cheap (or open source) RDB for Windows compatible with WO ...

Howdy All,

I have a customer who is determined to deploy WebObjects 5.2 on Windows
whilst spending as little as possible on a database (MS SQL Server is
too expensive, and thus is Oracle ...).

I've considered a few options:

FrontBase: my first choice, but Windows support is dependent on having
WebObjects and I don't want to constrain their use of the database.

OpenBase: a possibility, but the cheap license is throttled (this may be
ok) and limited to 10 users (this should definitely be ok).

SyBase: maybe, I seem to remember there was a free older version of
Sybase available, but I have not used it and I am unsure of drivers, WO
compatibility etc.

PostgreSQL: my preferred open source alternative, but currently not
available natively for Windows for free (needs *nix emulation)

MySQL: possible, but I have an aversion to it due mostly to some of its
peculiarities and perceived short-comings (that are argued over often)

I am looking for a database with good WO compatability (eg JDBC drivers,
EOModeler plugin) and the client is looking for an open source or free
option

Any recommendations from the above, or others?

Thanks in advance,
Ashley Aitken.
