These are fairly amazing offers to the community. We are a comparably
small company (three WO programmers, of whom two are now working full
time in Cayenne rather than EOF) and very stretched just completing
our paid work, so I have little to offer in manpower. However we love
what Cayenne has been able to offer us so far:

* Apple refused to license EOF to us several years ago (their answer
was: just go buy OSX for each of your deployments). Wanted to pay
them money. They didn't want our money. So we looked for alternatives
and found Cayenne.

* Sure EOF is now free (I think we can probably redistribute it, but
I've never been able to find that out for sure), but the three-tier
parts of it are poorly documented. Cayenne is working well for us in
that environment.

* We were able to get new features we needed added to Cayenne. That
would be very unlikely to happen with WO.

If possible, we would love to support a solid open source project
which gives us options to move beyond WebObjects. For us, complete
compatibility with the EOF/WO APIs is less important since we could
re-implement some code when the time came. To us, the more crucial
aspect of WO is the package of tools which includes wotaskd,
javamonitor, mod_webobjects, WO and EOF. As far as I've seen Cayenne
+ Tapestry + Jetty/Tomcat isn't that neat package. Each does its job
well, but nothing is well integrated yet.

The Apache project already has most of the tools needed, but some
form of integration project would be most welcome.
