I actually had to ask "Where is the open source equivalent of EOF  
with the same elegance etc, and not based on EOF or other non-open- 
source effort". Sorry for the confusion.

We too have an in-house clone of EOF. Soon we are going to release a  
product based on it. And I honestly believe we improved few  
aspects... But I am also honest enough to say that neither I nor any  
of my colleagues has the brain capacity to develop something like EOF  
in a greenfield.

The only thing I am attached to is my productivity.

Yes, see above. Our team spends about 20% of the time learning &  
testing new technologies. And we do switch when we think we have  
found something that will boost our speed. (Of course we also count  
the costs and risks of the switch). My claim above is on actually  
measuring our productivity...
