The 'Tried to update' part is misleading: it's just checking if it is 
writeable, not *trying* to update it.
I was worried that it was really trying to update the field(I have some 
fields in SQL that don't want Archetypes to modify, just read), that I 
had to trace the actual commands sent to the database server to make 
sure it wasn't so.
Not very helpful.
