I'll look into it. The best for me would actually be to use both tables and
divs, since the layout it rather complicated. I'm trying to redo the design
from http://www.miljoportalen.se/ using Plone, since the system we're
currently using is way to slow and unstable.

I've tracked down the problem to a style used in plone.css :

img {

border: none;

vertical-align: middle;

}

With it it makes the spacer-GIF trick useless, since it leaves extra space
around the images. Without it some of the pictures in the Plone interface
get the 1-pixel border that is default for linked images.

I'm trying to investivate if I could add some more properties to the
img-style that would remove the problem, but I haven't found anything so
far. Any help would be apreciated!
