i've not seen much graphics, because the site crashed (? internal server 
error now) but it didn't look like a site where you need to use tables 
and spacer gifs.

how do you mean complicated regarding the layout? customizing it to your 
needs is quite easy imo - you just need some average css skills (for 
example from zeldmans book "designing with webstandards" or 
w3schools.com/css/) to make some cool stuff with it. and i'm currently 
working on the ie fixes for the "reorganisation" of the columns (have 
content one two, two one content, and similiar things) so you just need 
to copy paste from the ui cookbook ;)

btw: you should be aware of the possibility that if you customize the 
templates to have a design which fits your needs, that it won't work in 
new plone versions, so you'll have to rewrite the templates again. in 
css it would be rather a small find and replace session.

well thats a good example why we're going to rewrite plone.css (for 2.1) 
hopefully soon.

we're (or just me) not using images for these reasons - only for 
content, because thats where they belong. there are just a few img tabs 
in plone left - in the next version there should/will be none.
