I would allow the user to turn off DHTML widgets, because not everybody likes it. One issue I see with DHTML: there is no standard how widgets should behave. The user would have to learn a new UI concept which might different from his customs (or operating system). Maintainability and increasing complexity might also be an issue. Yust my two cents.
