Ok, so what I hear you saying is that "semantic" means that the ids (etc.) describe the elements' use or function, is that correct? In those terms what I am saying is that there is no way to pin down the use or function of any of the elements. Or at least, doing so de-emphasizes flexibility because it implies that I am a "transgressor" for not using #portal-column-one for a column. I am ready to admit that my schemes are off-the-hook (been known to happen before).
