Maybe a PLIP for portlets?

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a skin with a graphical box around the portlets.
So far I was able to do it modifying every portlet (see the screenshot
at http://plone.org/Members/mbusico/sh1/image_view )
The problem is that If I try to operate on the portlets_fetcher.pt I
obtain a lot of empty boxes (one for every prtlet that doesn't generate
any output.
So here is my proposal:
Can we agree on a standard portlet behaviour?
I propose: every portlets returns two parameters:
return code (if there is any output or not)
portlet string (the content that have to be rendered)
So it be possible to test if the box have to be rendered or not.
Please, if I'm not correct and there is any method to test if
<metal:block metal:use-macro="python:path(pathexpr)" />
generates an output or not, tell me how it can be done.
Thanks for any help
Mirto
