plone.app.contenttypes 1.1.x and plone.app.event 1.1.x work and are on 
production in many big sites here in Brazil under 4.3, including 
http://www.brasil.gov.br/.

problems started at some point in some bug release that made 
plone.app.contenttypes dependent of plone.app.portlets 2.5.x, a release 
that was made for Plone 5 and that can't be included in Plone 4 because 
it changes the portlet structure and will break all sites.

IMO, this dependency has to be reverted and the package fixed to stay in 
line with the Plone 4 series.

IMO again, if a release 4.4 should be available at any point, something 
that is completely discarded by the FWT, AFAIK, it should be pointed to 
make the toolbar and the widgets available to anybody that wants to test 
them in real world applications now.

I don't know about plone.app.users 2.x...
