It seems this problem has been taken care of with p.a.portlets 2.5.1: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/plone.app.portlets/2.5.1 What if we would ship the next minor Plone 4.3.x release with a KGS of p.a.contenttypes and p.a.event (as we did for Dexterity before we shipped with it). If you don't install those packages it won't hurt anyone and if you want to install them you can just do it by adding plone.app.contenttypes to the eggs section.
