In general including python inside the plone rpm would be 100% more work to provide plone rpms. I even say this will complicate the whole thing even more since (at least if whole python isnt compiled statically). The rpm dependency nonsense is required to be sure the different components work together. I will provide howtos for old distributions like redhat 9 which currently provide no upgrade path to python 2.3.3 how one can update his/her vanilla installation. This is the only way to have sane rpm plone rpms. Other way would be to create a binary all statically linked linux installer (similar to the win/osx installers) which will then run on any linux platform. This would be the "Easy to install" feature. Installing via rpm though means dependencies. And the only one is python 2.3.3 installed from rpm (which is not very much i think). Seems like all my redhat 9 installations are updated so far that python2.3.3 from python.org installes smoothly. If its too complex to make this working i will provide python2.3.3 rpms for rh9 as well since redhat wont do this. Cheers, ~ Simon |> And who knows how many things libstdc++ will need... |> |> Argh! Surely someone along the way of testing the Plone 2.0 beta |> releases installed this on RH9. We will see .. all my redhats are updates quite a bit :). I am currently installing a vanilla one inside a vmware .. so expect a howto tomorrow. cheers, ~ Simon -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFAaytWcKXkdvrBGTARAhC7AKCspCkaaP3SCKe6ZTgcFwkxmgALWwCcDrxA 1RV7xwZUthJSFTYZFhPCIw0= =n0w+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IBM Linux Tutorials Free Linux tutorial presented by Daniel Robbins, President and CEO of GenToo technologies.
