At the moment not all installers are buildout based. This makes things difficult for people who use easy_install to install things in their Plone: easy_install will pull in plone.* packages that are already included in the site, possibly using conflicting versions and breaking the site. I'm wondering if it is possible to do something akin to fakezope2eggs (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/affinitic.recipe.fakezope2eggs) for those installers. Opinions? Is someone willing to volunteer working on this? This has a chance of improving things dramatically for the majority of Plone users (who use the Windows installer).
