A client does something like this - but is not happy and wants
to move the documents out of Plone into a separate system.
His main complaints:

  *  support for binary document formats is limited
     (quality of html previews not high enough; some formats
     not/not well supported)

  *  mass imports tend to clock down Plone

  *  editing two cumbersome

Be aware that users may not appreaciate their WebDAV experience:
there are significant differences regarding the file names
supported by the local operating system and Plone content accessed
via WebDAV. Based on the file names involved, many things may
fail with potentially difficult to understand error messages.
