First of all, I think (but I'm no SilvaNews expert) that SilvaNews 
articles do not provide an xml export method yet, so one would have to 
be created for them to be able to work with xslt renderers. Should not 
be hard to add since I think they use a subset of the xml of SilvaDocument.

Second, you want to use different xslt stylesheets for different 
layouts, correct? This is also not something supported right now, but I 
suppose SilvaLayout could be extended to register and then use specific 
renderers for specific content types, depending on the active skin. I 
expect this also wouldn't be a huge project, but I'd have to do a little 
investigation to put more definite numbers on both these features.
