I installed this: https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.5.1/python-3.5.1-macosx10.6.pkg I used it to create a virtualenv. I then used the virtualenv to install ZODB without a problem. I have no idea why you're having a problem installing ZODB in a virtualenv. Good luck.
