Must it be for the toolbar, and not the slit?
I run wmacpi to provide a battery indicator in the slit, I assume one of
the kde docklets will run on the toolbar, or is that the "hacking" you
meant?

Not sure what you desire here, I assume fbrun is not it? Could you
possibly elaborate further?
