Hello fluxbox users and developers - I previously created fluxspace and ported bbpager to fluxter. Sorry for the lack of progress on those tools, but my environment and needs changed to where they were no longer "itches" I needed to scratch. These projects were very part-time for me. :) I have just released the alpha version of a new tool called Fbdo, which to a large extent, can replace Fluxspace with a cleaner/simpler/lighter weight solution. The README discusses the pros and cons. The current feature set includes: * primitive window tiling (fixed screen regions) * window alignment (placing windows at specific screen locations) * launch apps (with optional already-running check and workspace assignment) * wallpaper management (per-workspace, random or fixed, with optional periodic cycling and a simple rating system) * very few dependencies, other than Python and C/Xlib. What's important to me is that it's easy to extend (with Python knowledge), friendly (automatic setup, lots of documentation, and full help), and hopefully is a nice platform for adding future features and creative ideas to window managers like Fluxbox. Please consider checking it out. All the documentation is online. Pre-built Ubuntu/Debian packages (32 and 64 bit) are available. And requirements are minimal. Developers might note that I put a great deal of emphasis on minimizing the work needed to add extensions and commands. Basically you just write specially decorated Python functions in files in well-known locations and they magically become part of Fbdo. You need a recent Python, C build tools and xlib. You don't need C and Xlib to add Python extensions, only to rebuild fbdo. This is not usually necessary. Read about it and get it here: http://wijjo.com/fbdo http://wijjo.com/projects/fbdo/readme.html http://wijjo.com/download http://wijjo.com/projects/fbdo/install.html http://wijjo.com/projects/fbdo/tutorial.html Note that you also need Cmdo, available from the same site, in the same downloads section. Please let me know what you think, good or bad. And don't hesitate to ask for help. There are forums at Wijjo.com and I'll be watching these lists. BTW - it also works with Xfce (automated setup), and can be manually set up for other EWMH window managers. Hope it's useful to some of you.
