How to suppress irritating console error messages for fluxbox?

When running applications under WIne, e.g. Word or Excel, console 1
(the default console in Gentoo) seems to be picking up fairly stupid
error messages, like "XXX.doc is not a Word document". This, even
though Wine is working as it should.

These messages wouldn't be such a problem except that I've noticed
fluxbox stops working properly around the same time, e.g. key bindings
and mouse bindings break so that I can no longer obtain the fluxbox
menu by right-clicking, change desktops, etc.

Of course these are two different symptoms/issues & I don't know if
they're related or in what way.

I've thought of two things to try but haven't done them yet - (1)
start my wine applications with > /dev/null as part of the command, or
(2) start fluxbox in xessions with "exec fluxbox > /dev/null". The
problem with the first approach is that it would require jiggering the
underlying file association commands for KDE (I'm using Konqueror as
my file browser) which seems ridiculous, since the problem never shows
up in KDE (which I also still use sometimes as a WM). So the second
seems like a better thing to try, as long as I don't need to debug
fluxbox but just work with it. I don't see any sort of setting in the
fluxbox init to turn off error reporting.

Any suggestions? Anyone else ever have a similar issue?
