xmodmap vs dragging tabs

The only manual way I know in Fluxbox to group windows is by dragging the title bar with the middle mouse button. (It would be nice to be able to configure a keyboard combo for that.) As I find it a little awkward to press the scroll wheel as a mouse button, I remapped an unused thumb button of my mouse to be the middle button (xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2 9"). It works in other places (X pasting, opening links in a background tab in Firefox, etc), but it doesn't work for dragging windows/tabs in Fluxbox. Any ideas?
