can't get slit to work

Hi.

I'm running fluxbox 1.0.0, and trying and failing to use the slit.

I've built bbsload 0.2.9 as the slit application I want to use, and started 
it as bbsload -w.

I was expecting that it would show up in the bottom-right of the screen 
where I have the slit configured, with possibly a need to mouseover the 
corner to make it visible, but I can't get it to display anything at all.

Fluxbox suggests that it has slit support enabled, and slit options are 
present in the fluxbox menus. fluxbox -info says:
