Great - for the record:

1) Enable volume management in thunar (in thunar, Edit - Preferences -
Advanced - Enable Volumemanagement)
2) start thunar --daemon

To configure volume management: thunar-volman -c

Working and happy.

But: Are there any alternatives, which do not involve installing several
things, which are still maintained?
