There are other options however. > That works for cd and single pendrives, but I have a few drives, which are used by backup scripts, and therefore expect a specific mountpoint. In addition, having the device mounted to a mountpoind based on the name of the device, is a nice sanity check for the backup script: if /media/backup does not exist, then the backup fails, in contrast to backing up to /media/externalhdd, which would be there irrespective of the external hdd, so a backup could go on the wrong hdd.
