I am not sure how screenshots are taken with X11, but if it works with
Unity, it may be thanks to the fact that Unity includes a compositing
manager. I guess some video outputs bypass X11 and send pictures
directly to the hardware, while compositing managers still see the
stream somewhere. Maybe, if you run a window compositing manager with
Fluxbox, it would work with Fluxbox too.

A few standalone compositing managers that can work along with Fluxbox:
 * xcompmgr: the old and buggy one, but for which it is easy to find a
   package in all major distributions;
 * fbcompose: still in development (is it?), supposed to be used with
   Fluxbox;
 * unagi: another option, but I have had some problems when using
   Fluxbox with it in the past.

I am not sure, somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is
worth a try.
