I think you'll find that compton is pretty much abandon-ware. I thought I'd
take a look at it when I saw yr email but it was quite hard to find a
package for fedora-21/22 - the fedora people seem to have dropped it as
unsupported s/w.

That said, I had a bit of a play with it - but I didn't run into any of the
problems you mentioned. Maybe a newer version would help?

I tried this:

fedora-21
fluxbox-1.3.5-3.fc21.x86_64

compton-0.1.0-1.1.x86_64 from https://github.com/chjj/compton although I
had to enable a SUSE repository:

I kinda sorta came to the conclusion that if you really want this sort of
eye-candy, you'd be better off looking at a window manager designed for it.
I dunno - maybe KDE? Gnome?

fluxbox is hardcore plain (modulo a few tweaks for style, backgrounds etc)
- and that's how I like it!
