Well, I have already dropped any compositor for now...

If someone has a good experience with a composite manager and fluxbox,
then perhaps he/she can comment on it, and I can try out...

I've been using fluxbox for quite a while, and never wanted bloated
DEs.  So no problem with no having a compositor helping...

However I would disagree fluxbox is hardcore plain...  It actually
supports true transparency (sadly I couldn't get a stable mix with a
composite manager).  But besides, it comes with built in
pseudo-transparency (which I've had enabled for some time).
rxvt-unicode also supports pseudo-transparency, and conky can have the
override type which allows mixing with transparency.  That besides
several themes to chose from.  So it can be sort of eye-candy, :-)

I just wanted to experiment with true transparency and shadowing,
besides the now a days gtk-3 menus transparency...  Couldn't enable it
in a stable way after all, but not something I'd die for, :-)
