I have had an idea bouncing around in my head these past few days:  
Wayland is, as I understand, built on the DRI layer originally intended 
for accelerating OpenGL under X11.  The X server already has the ability 
to listen on multiple transports. How hard would it be to add Wayland 
support to the X server? (Make the X server function as a Wayland 
compositor?)

If the X server were to gain Wayland compositing, we could have Wayland 
clients in an FVWM session...
