Swift Linux is configured to only install required packages, not recommended ones.  I have to take MANY additional measures to shrink the base distro sufficiently to fit onto a CD - replacing GDM3 with LightDM, replacing GNOME with IceWM+ROX, and removing many heavyweight apps that have good lightweight replacements or would probably only be used by a small percentage of users.

The idea behind Swift Linux is to offer the benefits of a heavy distro in a much lighter one.  The new Mint-based Swift Linux will provide the superior software repository, driver/codec support, and user-friendliness of Linux Mint Debian Edition while working just as well in old computers as Puppy Linux and antiX Linux..

A lightweight distro that offers the benefits of the heavier distros would help TWO great causes: bridging the digital divide AND minimizing e-waste by enabling the re-use of old computers that can't run the heavier Linux distros.
