That's a good tip.  I also discovered that Vim can be used on the 
Jornada to update the passwd file without turning it into unicode.

Regarding the error messages, there is a file called "ssh-stderr.txt" 
that gets automatically created by ssh on the Jornada.  You can find 
it by opening up "My Handheld PC" - it's right there along with stdin 
and stdout.

I'm finding that I'm always having to re-acknowledge the RSA key 
fingerprint.  I'm getting the error message that it can't create the 
directory '"/Storage Card/home/milleamy"/_ssh'.  And another error 
that it can't add the host to the list of known hosts ("/Storage Card/
home/milleamy"/.ssh/known_hosts2).  Do you get those error message 
also?
