I can only chuckle at the InfoWorld articles . . .  InfoWorld, IMHO, is
the most blatant pro-Sun, pro-Java, pro-Anybody-But-Microsoft
publication in the industry.  The tone of these pieces is like the
little boy wandering through the cemetery, trying to talk himself out of
being afraid.

Sure VB.NET is a big jump for traditional VB developers, including me.
The tradeoff is the power and flexibility you get. I learned C# first,
so that I could learn the .NET framework without any of my preconceived
VB ideas.  It was then very easy to learn VB.NET.

They talk about a decline in VB developers, but they don't say how many
have moved to C#.  I use both, and was pleasantly surprised by how
friendly C# really is (once you get used to curly braces and case
sensitivity)  I think far more people will move to C# than Java, because
the .NET framework itself is so nice to work with.  I have talked to a
lot of people who have struggled with enterprise development in Java,
and they almost uniformly think that .NET is the way to go.  There are,
of course, a few zealots who will go down with the ship . . .

I laughed when I read the complaint about the absence of WebClasses and
DHTML.  Excuse me?  Is anybody out there?  The ASP.NET model is so
superior to working with WebClasses, a comparison is not even
worthwhile.  And, while not being a DHTML expert, I think the baked in
features of ASP.NET incorporate a lot of the DHTML functionality, but do
it better.

In my view, these are just more marketing ploys by Sun/InfoWorld to try
to deflect attention from the fact that Java is on the road to trouble
in the enterprise.
