CPU Utilization

I have a VB ActiveX component which actually loops through the a text file
and reads it.. This component is called from a standard Exe (say Exe-1)
which is being shelled from another DLL so that multile instances of the
standard EXE (i.e Exe-1) is shelled. This was done to increase the
performance so that many instances of EXE can be run simultaneously and
more files can be processed in the same time frame.

When I run a single instance, let us say it takes 60 seconds to process 2
files (i.e. processing sequentially). When I run two instances and process
the same two files, it is taking almost the same time.

Using performance monitor, I found that in both single and two instances
the CPU utilization was 100%. So when we run two instances, the cpu
utilization of 100% was contineous whereas when I ran on a single
intstance, there were two distinct spikes.

The environment of the application server is P3 1ghz with 256mb of RAM and
a similar database server. While monitoring, we could find only 50% of RAM
was utilsed. This application is developed using VB 6.0, COM+, SQL Sever
2000.

Can we get a work around for this problem?
