The number of items you can have in a single folder varies by folder type and other factors. But once you start hitting about 8,000 items in a folder, you should be thinking of a strategy to deal with it if it grows. In some cases you can get about twice that number in a folder, but you risk a problem if you don't have a plan. This is probably the most common problem with Ecco "memory" problems .... too many items in a single folder. It's Ecco's Achilles heel. But too many items displayed in notepads is up there too. You have to be careful with that one because even doing a search could suddenly send your items displayed in a notepad over the limit and bring your file to its knees. First thing I usually do when I have a memory problem is delete my notepads. Occasionally that is all that needs to be done. Then you can reconstruct them and get a fresh start. Next task is to try to find an overfilled folder. Not easy to do in native Ecco without the Extension.
