My optimism was mistaken. Although I can now add a new appointment, it doesn't stay there.  When I move to another date and then return to the first, the new appointment has disappeared.  Any thoughts? 

 I compacted the new Eccoext file and 3165398 bytes were recovered.  When I tried to recover the database it said 'Ecco was unable to recover data from the file'. 
 

 Sorry to return to this but I am very dependent on Ecco and must get it working again.
