When Database/Recover does not work, the prognosis for the normal use of the file going forward is probably not very good. It's a grave symptom.

Be sure you have backup copies of the file in case anything you do makes it completely unreadable.

What happens when you run Database/Test?

What happens when you try the same thing with appointments in a new virgin file?

Are you using EccoExtension? If so I assume the recover operation you used was the EE version?

Have you also tried a recovery without EE? Have you tried the appointment operation on that file without EE? What were the results?

Your compacting operation returned a large amount of memory. That leads me to speculate that the file is not well maintained (this is not a criticism, just an observation). The reason I mention that is that when a file is not well maintained it tends to become more prone to corruption... which if I had to guess now would be my guess at what your problem is.

Consider trying the above suggested things and responding to the questions. Maybe some better news will reveal itself. I will be very busy the next few days but hopefully this may point you in a helpful direction and I will try to find some time to check back in. Sorry for your problem, I know how that feels. Good luck! :)
