According to several Ecco users recent problems seem to be related
to automatic Windows updates.

1) One client wrote: The re-boot solved my problem. All I could find
in the Windows update was that the update occurred on November 18th.

2) Another client replied: The reboot process was the cure. The
newest update to the 8.1 system was Cummulative KB2919355. I did not
have to do anything in the registry or delete updates to finally get
a solution. Thanks for your help with this.

3) Here is what Rob A. wrote us: The reboot worked! Here’s the
interesting thing. After the update and reboot, I had to re-assign
show\hide to various system tray processes. After I rebooted, the
original settings were there. Very strange! Thanks for all your
help!

4) H.M. lost Ecco's "Help Menu" function of Microsoft's
"Windows8.1-KB917607-x64.msu" (downloaded at: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40899).
He wrote: Solved thanks to your advice. The problem was an optional
update KB3000850 which was 775.2 mb. The approximate date was
November, 2014. It was also an update roll-up for windows 8.1 and
windows RT 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. With it being
uninstalled, the help file came back. Thank you, thank you.

Here is what you can do in a similar situation: If you received
automatic Windows Updates and Security Updates which modified
security settings or Ecco behavior you have to identify the culprit.
One way is to go to the Control Panel -> Programs and Features
-> View Installed Updates and Uninstall the recently received
automatic updates one by one. The updates are dated so you can
easily identify the one which causes your problem. A reboot after
each uninstall is recommended.

Please keep us in the loop!

Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year,
